Floor 29 — Engineering Bay

The elevator doors slide open onto a corridor that smells of burnt wiring and coolant.
Emergency lights flash in slow rhythm, washing the walls in dull red.
Half-finished prototypes crowd the benches—mechanical arms, dismantled housings, tools left mid-repair.
The air hums faintly with static, as though the whole floor is still remembering what happened.

To the right, a bank of workstations lines the wall.
Most monitors are dark, but one near the center still glows, the screen fractured by hairline cracks.
To the left stands a heavy steel workbench littered with precision tools, charred connectors, and a shattered relay casing.
Someone was re-wiring something here—and in a hurry.

Among the debris you notice a thick cardboard tube marked SMARTSERVE — DEMONSTRATION REVISION.
It lies beside a stack of burn-spotted printouts labeled Change Log / Engineering Review Drafts.
A faint ozone tang rises from the paper edges where a spark must have caught them.

Behind the bench, a metal door stands half-ajar.
A warning stencil reads STAIR ACCESS — FLOOR 31 EXECUTIVE MAINT ONLY.
Beyond it, a stairwell rises into shadow.
